This is komet's secretary writing.

We are stuck on the M20 in the fourth traffic jam today. The ferry was much more pleasant. Actually the jam outside Brussels was more pleasant as well.

This is a reminder that your presences are required for drinking and merriment at the Anchor.

Reminder! Reminder! Friday, August 21, at the Anchor.

Featured foreigners (coming over here but not taking our jobs):
  • Not only will the lovely R343L be there, but also the appallingly well-travelled Millman. To the best of my knowledge, neither of them are clinically insane.
  • I will be there too, but I don't count.

I will be passing through London (en route to Canuckistan) on 10 July and 28 July. Apart from stocking up on pies, I could probably use a beer. Anyone up for drinks?

Oh, of course I also wish to meet any and all Canucki Hussites between those dates!

Hulver bravely navigated the German-only amazon.de in order to send me a book - The Time Machine by H. G. Wells, one of the classics I never got round to reading. Thanks hulver!

In other news, Facebook Mornington Crescent has reached 563 installs. The Facebook group "Mornington Crescent Apreciation [sic] Society" has 490 members. I have clearly cornered the market.

Print Story Bacon and goat cheese.
Food
By komet (Sat Aug 18, 2007 at 02:20:34 AM EST) (all tags)
This morning, owing to my hunger and raging hangover, the following dishes were prepared:

Dish 1: White bread (R), butter (T), bacon (B);
Dish 2: White bread (R), butter (T), bacon (B), goat cheese (C).

The bread, butter, and bacon elements of both dishes were taken from an identical source. It can be assumed that differences in these elements did not contribute significantly to the outcome of this experiment.

The dishes were then tasted. It was observed that Dish 1 tastes better than Dish 2:
R □ T □ B > R □ T □ B □ C
The presence of goat cheese appears to detract from the overall taste.

So, as you might know, I'm a British citizen, and there's an absentee vote available to citizens for 15 years after leaving the country. I've been gone longer than 15 years. I therefore have no vote.

How long does it take to get onto the electoral register? Is it realistic to short-term rent a flat in London for, say, one or two weeks, stuff myself on pies, and be registered to vote during that time? Or is this totally infeasible? How is identity checked - do you have to present two electricity bills or something silly charmingly British like that?

Hello Londoners, yes it's almost time again to shake off wartime austerity and consume large amounts of alcohol with people you know only from an Internet website. Yes, Friday, 9 March 2007 A.D. is London Husi drinks time!

That's next Friday, so if anyone phones and asks, "are you free next Friday", the correct answer is "NO", unless it's a Hussite on the phone.

In attendance:
hulver, the man himself, from all the way up North;
all the way from Canada, the very sweet misslake, who will show you things about London you walked past hundreds of times and never noticed;
also from Canada, the inimitable 256, bicyclist, writer, and Wikipedia article-on-himself-haver;
again from Canada's Shawshack, ni, who ought to post more as I can't think of anything witty to say right now;
all the way from Switzerland, myself, komet, who owns a kazoo and a Swiss bank account;
and many other Englanders, too numerous to mention here, though it would be nice if you would post a reply to this saying you're coming, so that we can get an idea of how many people are going to show up.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to turn up and get very drunk indeed, and optionally go clubbing afterwards. Having said that, teetotallers are of course also very welcome - but I don't think we have any on Husi.

Just a friendly reminder, since I expect everyone's forgotten, that London Husi Drinks & Debauchery International takes place on 9 March. I will be in London from 8 - 11 March, and the inimitable 256 arrives on the 7th IIRC, and misslake will apparently be there too. WE DEMAND ENTERTAINMENT

Update [2007-1-31 15:12:5 by komet]: ni has been persuaded to come over, too, and needs crash space as well. This is quickly becoming a massive event!
